1) Who will challenge Chess World Champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) in the World title match to be held during November 2014? – Vishwanathan Anand of India (Anand won the World Candidates chess tournament at Khanty Mansisyk (Russia) on 29 March 2014 by drawing his tie against Russian Sergey Karjakin in the penultimate round. He took an unbeatable lead in tournament with 8 points. By becoming the challenger, Anand also became the first player to be in the world title matches eight times and winning in all three formats – knockout, double-round robin and match-play)

2) The capital market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on 29 March 2014 got back the power to act against ponzi schemes, illegal deposit schemes and assess call data records in securities-related offences after the SEBI Ordinance was re-promulgated. This happened after the Finance Ministry managed to get the nod of the Election Commission and Cabinet on re-promulgation of the SEBI Ordinance and finally from the President. 3) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 27 March 2014 extended the deadline for implementation of Basel III norms by the Indian banks to 31 March 2019. What was the earlier deadline for implementation of this norm? – 31 March 2018 (Under this norm Indian banks need to have a core capital ratio of 8% and a total capital adequacy ratio of 11.5% against the present 9%. The norm has been devised to strengthen the regulation, supervision and risk management of the banking sector)

7) A C-130J Super Hercules aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on 28 March 2014 near the Madhya Pradesh–Rajasthan border killing all five IAF crew members on-board. This crash came as a major setback to the IAF. IAF had inducted how many C-130J Super Hercules aircrafts in its arm during 2010? – Six (With this accident only five C-130J Super Hercules remain in the IAF. However, IAF is planning to induct six more C-130J Super Hercules into the force soon. C-130J Super Hercules is known for its service prowess and capability to operate in very difficult conditions and terrains.
