The employment scenario in the country is likely to witness a surge in 2014 with the banking segment expected to hire aggressively and a rebound in economic growth raising prospects for jobs across sectors. A deep economic slowdown and delay in implementation of projects have hurt jobs in several sectors, particularly in manufacturing. The slowdown in developed economies also hit jobs in the export and other allied sectors. 

The banking sector has drawn up ambitious hiring plans for officers as well as administrative staff. State-run banks are expected to recruit about 55,000 officers and clerical staff in 2014. "On an average, in the next three years, the banking sector will recruit about 50,000 employees," said Anup Sankar Bhattacharya, director at the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection.

While the recruitment process for jobs in the government sector is in progress, the remaining job opportunities would be provided through the private sector, Hooda said addressing a press conference at his residence here this evening. 

IT, banking, agri-biz to be key job creators in 2014: Assocham

Information technology, banking and agriculture-related businesses are going to be among the key job creating sectors in 2014, according to a study by industry body Assocham.

"Information Technology (IT), pharmaceuticals, banking and agri-related industries such as farm equipment, fertilisers and seeds, will remain the largest employment generation sectors in 2014," the chamber said in its study.

All these sectors will stand out despite the present state of the economy where net employment is being lost and not created in a large majority of sectors.
