1.    Govt, World Bank sign USD 60 mn loan pact for K'taka project

i. The government signed a USD 60 million loan agreement with the World Bank on Monday to improve watershed operations in seven districts of Karnataka.

ii. “Government and the World Bank signed a USD 60 million credit agreement for the Karnataka Watershed Development Project II (KWDP II) to further improve watershed planning and management in project areas.

iii. The project will improve government watershed operations in 930 micro-watersheds covering 465,000 hectares across sevendistricts of Karnataka.

iv. The project follows successful implementation of WB-supported KWDP I which helped improve lives of 230,000 farmers by increasing crop yields by about 25 per cent and raising household incomes of small and marginal farmers by 40 per cent.

v. It will also facilitate better convergence of IWMP with othser government programmes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). 

vi. Besides, it will strengthen the financial and technical convergence between IWMP and NREGS through more integrated watershed planning and monitoring, and developing innovative tools and processes in sub and micro-watersheds.

vii. It will be financed through a credit from World Bank’s concessionary lending arm, International Development Association (IDA). 

viii. The closing date of the project is 31^st December, 2018.

output  (I/O) devices  - provides  the basic computing  resources. The applications

Data Models, Schemas and Instances

A characteristic of the database approach is that it provides a level of data abstraction, by hiding details of data storage that are not needed by most users.

A data model is a collection of concepts that can be used to describe the structure of a database.  The model provides the necessary means to achieve the abstraction.

The structure of a database is characterized by data types, relationships, and constraints that hold for the data.  Models also include a set of operations for specifying retrievals and updates.

Data models are changing to include concepts to specify the behaviour of the database application.  This allows designers to specify a set of user defined operations that are allowed.

Categories of Data Models

Data models can be categorized in multiple ways.

• High level/conceptual data models – provide concepts close to the way users perceive the data.
• Physical data models – provide concepts that describe the details of how data is stored in the computer.  These concepts are generally meant for the specialist, and not the end user.
• Representational data models – provide concepts that may be understood by the end user but not far removed from the way data is organized.

Conceptual data models use concepts such as entities, attributes and relationships.

• Entity – represents a real world object or concept
• Attribute - represents property of interest that describes an entity, such as name or salary.
• Relationships – among two or more entities, represents an association among two or more entities.
