1. What is SQL?Answer: Structured Query Language (SQL) is a language that provides an interface to relational database systems.
   In common usage SQL also encompasses DML (Data Manipulation Language), for INSERTs, UPDATEs, DELETEs and DDL (Data Definition Language), used for creating and modifying tables and other database structures.
   
2. What is SELECT statement?Answer: The SELECT statement lets you select a set of values from a table in a database.The values selected from the database table would depend on the various conditions that are specified in the SQL query.
   
3. How can you compare a part of the name rather than the entire name?Answer: SELECT * FROM people WHERE empname LIKE '%ab%'Would return a recordset with records consisting empname the sequence 'ab' in empname.

Introduction

A collection of two or more computers interconnected by the telephone lines, co-axial cable, satellite links, radio and microwave transmission and some other communication techniques.  A computer network is a group of computers that are connected together and that communicate with one another for a common purpose.

Although the computer industry is young compared to anther industries (e.g., automobiles air transportation), computer have made spectacular progress in a short time.  During the first two decades of their extrinsic, computer system highly centralized, usually a single large room.  A medium size company or university might have had one or two computers, while large instructions had at most a few dozen. The idea that with in 20 years equally powerful computers smaller than postage stamps would be mass produced by the millions was pure science fiction.

The merging of computers & communications has had a profound influence on the way computer systems are organized. The concept of the computer center as a room with a large computer to which users bring their work for processing is now totally obsolete. The old model of single computer serving all of the organizations computational needs has been replaced by one in which a large number of separate but interconnected computers do the job. These systems are called computer networks.

Two computers are said to be interconnected if they are able to exchange information’s. The connection need not be via a copper wire; fiber optics, microwaves, and communication satellites can also be used. By requiring the computer to be autonomous, we which to execute from our definitions systems in which there is a clear master/slave relation. If one computer can forcibly starts , stop, or control another one, the computers are not autonomous. A system with one control unit and many slaves is not a network; nor is a large computer with remote printers and terminals.

GK update

1.    Govt, World Bank sign USD 60 mn loan pact for K'taka project

i. The government signed a USD 60 million loan agreement with the World Bank on Monday to improve watershed operations in seven districts of Karnataka.

ii. “Government and the World Bank signed a USD 60 million credit agreement for the Karnataka Watershed Development Project II (KWDP II) to further improve watershed planning and management in project areas.

iii. The project will improve government watershed operations in 930 micro-watersheds covering 465,000 hectares across sevendistricts of Karnataka.

iv. The project follows successful implementation of WB-supported KWDP I which helped improve lives of 230,000 farmers by increasing crop yields by about 25 per cent and raising household incomes of small and marginal farmers by 40 per cent.

v. It will also facilitate better convergence of IWMP with othser government programmes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). 

vi. Besides, it will strengthen the financial and technical convergence between IWMP and NREGS through more integrated watershed planning and monitoring, and developing innovative tools and processes in sub and micro-watersheds.

vii. It will be financed through a credit from World Bank’s concessionary lending arm, International Development Association (IDA). 

viii. The closing date of the project is 31^st December, 2018.
